Making resolutions and sticking to them can be downright impossible at times. Many of us don't follow through and some don't make it past the first week. It's a very personal thing. Sweets, chocolate and fats are usually the first things on the list to go. You don't have to give up sweets for New Years. There is a way to accomplish both and not deprive your sweet tooth.
In my last blog, I told you how I converted my recipes to keep us happy and get us through the hard times. In fact, the recipes I changed were just as delicious as the classic ones, without the fat, cholesterol, calories, dairy and/or eggs. They were made with whole grains, more fiber and in some cases, more taste. Holidays are a hard time to be vegan or a vegetarian and New Years is no exception.
So, in keeping with this years resolutions, here are some suggestions to keep your sweet tooth happy and your healthy side satisfied:
Vegan Pumpkin and Banana Muffins can be made with whole milk and eggs and still be healthy.
Same thing with Vegan Cranberry Nut Bread & Apple Cinnamon Nut Bread. Just substitute milk and eggs.
Honey Raisin & Nut Granola is great on it's own or with milk.
Decorate Sourdough Carrot Cake with non-dairy whipped topping instead of cream cheese frosting.
For those who just can't be happy without chocolate and don't give a hoot about calories, Chocolate French Silk Pie will bring the New Year in with a bang!
I'll be posting a poll of the top 5 New Year's Resolutions soon. Check back and vote!
