When it's boiling hot outside, but you need to bake a cake for a garden party, wait until after 10 PM to use your oven. That way you'll avoid adding to the strain on utilities as air conditioners all over the city labor. This will also help keep your house cooler.
If you're making something that needs to be cooled as part of the steps of the recipe, spread the mixture into a shallow pan and place it in the refrigerator. The mixture will cool off more quickly and you'll use less energy.
Or think about making something totally no cook!
