Making your own candies is not only a delicious activity, but it will help get your kids into the kitchen. Children are naturally curious, and the world of cooking and baking is a great way to introduce them to concepts of mathematics, biology, and physics. Really!
Learning how to measure, multiplying and dividing ingredient amounts is math. Biology: have them check to see how long fruits stay fresh; all living things have an endtime. And have them sprinkle half of the apple slices with lemon juice and leave the other half plain; explaing how enzymatic browning occurs because cells are cut. And physics - watch a cake rise in the oven, and watch fudge cool and harden.
So, these treats are quick, easy, and delicious. And you get to control the nutrition because you control the ingredients. Cook with your kids!
