For 2 weeks we grumbled and detoxed and whined some more. At the end of that time I said, "If we're going to eat like this, then I'm converting all my recipes over so we can still enjoy our food." And that's exactly what I did!
I converted every recipe that we had for the bakery and with blood, sweat and tears, we were back in business. This time there was a vegan/vegetarian slant. We started selling healthy baked goods to health food stores. They loved our Vegan Nut Breads and Honey Raisin & Nut Granola. We were swamped again! We were homeschooling our 4 kids during this time, so once again, we had willing hands to help (NOT!) and we called it "Home Economics" and "Consumer Math".
We did this for over 3 years, health improved, customers were happy and I eventually self-published 2
cookbooks. Sadly they're out of print for the moment, but someday soon, we'll have a cookbook or two back on the shelves.
You're still wondering how I can go both ways? Vegan and/or Sinfully rich and delicious? Well, in 1998 or so, we started catering and doing a lot more wholesale baking. And of course, we couldn't just make the Chocolate French Silk Pie and prime rib and not taste it. You know, to make sure it was OK for human consumption! One thing led to another and we ended up leading a double life. Vegan vs Dairy.
Still confused? While I am still passionate about healthy foods, I can't turn my back on the dark side. I love them both and I can't change my ways. So, I'm pulling out all the stops and sharing my very personal collection of all things delicious ~ on both sides.
