Making Chocolate Candy is a fun family tradition and can be used as a fun holiday gift. Plus, who doesn't like chocolate?

Chocolate candy bonbons are easy, tasty, and look elegant. All three factors make them perfect gifts for a majority of people on the Christmas list (or any other list one might be checking). All of the following recipes use a dipping chocolate.

Candy making chocolate can be purchased at any grocery store. Many varieties can be found easily during the holidays. The tastes of these recipes will vary depending on the chocolate type that is used. Some will prefer a milk chocolate while others will lean towards dark chocolate.

Candy dipping chocolate can be made by adding a couple tablespoons of shortening to a bag of melted chocolate chips.

Use a double boiler to melt chocolate. A microwave can also be used but chocolate is very easily burned in the microwave so be careful.

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts

  2. With melted chocolate, dip coconut cream center completely in chocolate. Let dry on waxed paper.

Creamy Peppermint Candies

Peppermint is a great holiday flavor. These candies are very refreshing after a big holiday meal. This recipe makes 4 dozen

Ingredients for Creamy Peppermint Candies:

  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 9 cups confectioner's sugar

Directions for Creamy Peppermint Candies:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and peppermint extract until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the confectioner's sugar until all is thoroughly mixed in.
  3. Shape into one inch balls. Place on waxed paper and flatten into patties with a glass. Refrigerate for one hour or until chilled.
  4. Dip patties in melted chocolate and place on waxed paper until firm. Store in the refrigerator after hardened.

Remember to draw candies across the rim of the saucepan to remove excess chocolate.

If a lot of candies are being made, chocolate may begin to harden. Re-melt slowly over the stovetop.
