Don't miss Part I: Cookbook Review "101 Easy Peasy Cookie Recipes"

Baking & Desserts Feature Writer: Lucinda & Heather, you both have the same last name. Are you related?

Lucinda: I'm the mom.

Heather: And I'm the daughter.

B & D: Reading your bios, it seems you both bring diverse, yet complimentary talents to your new book. Suite101 readers are a curious bunch. Please tell a little bit about yourselves?

Lucinda: I began baking cookies when I was 11 as a way to entertain my younger brother and here I am, 40 years later, still loving to bake cookies. Throughout the years, my love of cooking lead me to developing recipes of my own. I have also collaborated with Heather on a recipe newsletter and two other cookbooks.

Heather: I have over 20 years experience as a writer, so 101 Easy Peasy Cookie Recipes seemed like the perfect combination of two interests; baking and writing.

B & D: The name of your book "101 Easy Peasy Cookie Recipes" is such a cute name. Where did it come from?

Heather: When brainstorming for this title I wanted to think of something that conveyed both simplicity and fun. Easy peasy seemed like the perfect way to let people know that these recipes weren't just simple, but that they are fun to prepare as well.

B & D: How did you get into baking cookies?

Lucinda: My mother loves to cook. I remember her happy and humming in the kitchen when I was a child. The warm feeling that she brought to the kitchen seemed so inviting that I soon found myself acting as her helper. Being there with Mom is when my love of cooking began.

Heather: My love of cooking is the result of a Christmas tradition. For as long as I can remember, my mom and I have spent the days before the holiday in the kitchen with Christmas music playing while we bake cookies. Those good times showed me that cooking could be an enjoyable activity.

B & D: 101 cookie recipes? Were they passed down from generation to generation?

Lucinda: As an homage to my mother we included Lolli's Butter Cookies.

Heather: Yes, we thought that my grandmother would get a kick out of seeing her recipe in print, and she did.

B & D: This must have been a big undertaking for you. How long did it take to write your new book?

Heather: Between writing, formatting, creating the cover art, and the myriad of other steps that went into the creation of this book, it took quite a while.

B & D: How many trials and errors did you have to go through to perfect your recipes?

Lucinda: To make an omelet you have to break a few eggs. The same applies to cookies.

B & D: Your friends and relatives were probably your best taste testers.

Lucinda: They say that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, and my husband has been walking around with a bigger smile than usual lately.

B & D: All your cookies are great, but you must have a favorite!

Heather: My favorite recipe is Oranges and Cream Cookies. The taste of these cookies instantly reminds me of my childhood when my friends and I would race to the ice cream truck to buy Creamsicles.

Lucinda: My favorite is Colossal Double Chocolate White Chip Cookies. I love chocolate and these cookies definitely deliver with every chewy bite.

B & D: Any other books in the works?

Heather: An Easy Peasy cookbook series was always a possiblity and now, considering how well-received our first book has been, we can say that it is a certainty.

B & D: Anything else You'd like to share?

Lucinda: Cook with someone you love and you will always love to cook.

B & D: That's quite a story! It's a good bet that readers will be anxiously looking forward to your next book! Thank you for this personal interview.
